Dr. Sadie T.M. Alexander
(1898-1989) B.S. in Education, M.A. in Economics, University of
Pennsylvania; Ph.D. in Economics, the University of Pennsylvania's
Wharton School and L.L.B., University of Pennsylvania Law School.
Raymond Pace Alexander (1897-1974) B.S. University of Pennsylvania, L.L.B. Harvard Law School.
Despite
the immeasurable racism Dr. Sadie T.M. Alexander endured while at Penn,
she always believed in the power of education and its ability to change
the racial landscape of America. She also believed in Penn and the
future of the University as an intellectual community dedicated to
diversity and areas of civil rights. Upon her death in 1989, Dr. Sadie
T.M. Alexander left a part of her estate to establish the Raymond Pace and Sadie T.M. Alexander Professorship in Civil Rights.
The Alexander Chair allows Penn Law to hire a Professor whose primary
focus would be on the issues of civil rights and civil liberties.
This years theme "Making Your Mark: Emerging as Leaders in Troubled Times"
exemplifies our hopes that the chair will be a living thing: responsive
to the changing needs of our community. If you are interested in
donating or helping us further the mission of Dr. Alexander please see
the information provided. The Sadie Alexander Conference Fundraising
Committee could use your help in any capacity you see fit. In addition
to your tax deductible contributions we are always looking for
fundraising ideas; venues to hold our fundraising activities; and ways
to connect to donors who might be interested in this worthwhile cause.
